Mission.

To counsel and support families through educational decisions for their children with compassion, understanding, and expertise.

The Spruce Process

Every family’s needs are a little different. I will tailor a planning process to fit your family’s needs, whether locally or from afar. Finding the right school begins with understanding a student and their family. We start by talking about values, priorities, and who a student is.

  • Get to know your family and child:

    • We begin our work with a kickoff meeting, where students applying to high school get to know one another and discuss their hopes and dreams, expectations, and what they seek in a school.

    • I focus on your child, their scholastic history, interests, strengths, and growth areas to understand what they need and want in a school.

  • Build the “list”:

    • Based on understanding your child and family, I research and compile a list of schools for your child, including a description of each school and a rationale for why each school will be a good match for your child.

    • I am committed to visiting, learning, and researching my recommended schools. When not working with students and families, I visit schools locally and throughout the country to maintain and cultivate relationships and stay current on each school’s offerings.

  • Guide you through the admissions process:

    • You will be provided a clear roadmap for your family to navigate the admissions process.

    • I help you get to know the schools, and the schools get to know your child.

    • I assist you in organizing and prioritizing your tasks and scheduling events.

    • You will receive my weekly Spruce Notes and talk and meet regularly throughout the process.

  • Visits, interviews, applications, and essays:

    • I will prepare your child for school visits and interviews.

    • Review your and your child’s impressions of the schools.

    • Drawing upon my experience as a former English teacher, I meet with high school students throughout the fall to support them as they write their application essays and keep them on task.

    • Since students are the only people writing essays, I support parents with their essays, from idea generation to editing.

  • Decision making:

    • Finally, I help you make decisions and select the school that will offer the best possible fit for your child.

I pride myself on being organized, direct, and goal-oriented. I balance our focus on outcomes with compassion and integrity.
