Spruce Advisors: High School Application Essay Bootcamp!
As I’ve mentioned before, in my experience the hardest part of the high school application process is essay writing. Why? The short answer is that writing is hard for most people– especially so for a 13- or 14-year old. As the parent of one teenager and one almost-teenager, I know the acute pain of nagging a reluctant child to accomplish a task. I’ve also seen hundreds of other students (and their parents) struggle through the process of completing application essays. With this in mind, Spruce Advisors is introducing High School Application Essay Bootcamp so rising 8th graders can get a head start during the summer.
My High School Application Essay Bootcamp helps students get started by brainstorming a bank of ideas, then using the writing process to develop ideas into full-blown essays. At the conclusion, participating students will emerge with two solid essay drafts. We’ll meet from 10am to 1pm online and then students will be expected to write for an hour in the afternoon or evening. Students will receive close attention, daily feedback on their writing and meet 1:1 with me personally. The class will be limited to 10 students.
The class will be led by me, Tara Boland, a former independent high school and middle school English teacher. I have worked with hundreds of students over the years to brainstorm, write, revise, and edit application essays.
Beyond drafted essays, students will emerge having started with the process and the knowledge of a replicable process that they can make their own, and the confidence to tackle their future essays.
